Troubleshoot WhatsApp setup

Use this guide to fix common Meta WhatsApp Cloud setup issues in DrusyAI.

Meta developer access

Meta for Developers uses the same Facebook login as business.facebook.com - there is no separate developer account. If developers.facebook.com asks you to register, blocks access, or My Apps is missing, open the Meta developer access guide (linked from setup step 6 and the prerequisites page). Most stalls here are the wrong Facebook account (setup step 2) or missing admin access on the Business Portfolio.

No. Developer registration is usually immediate and unlocks developers.facebook.com. Meta business verification (setup step 3) is a separate review that can take several days and gates production WhatsApp access.

Phone number and Phone Number ID

It is not recommended. A Meta WhatsApp Cloud number should be dedicated to business use. If your number is already active on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business, it may need to be deleted, migrated, or transferred through the correct Meta process before it can be used.

Phone verification happens in Meta, not in DrusyAI. DrusyAI uses the Phone Number ID after the number has been registered in Meta.

The Phone Number ID is the Meta identifier for your registered WhatsApp number. DrusyAI needs this ID when creating the Meta WhatsApp Cloud channel.

DrusyAI expects the Phone Number ID, not just the visible phone number. Check Meta and copy the correct Phone Number ID.

Credentials

You need two values from Meta: an Access token and an App secret. DrusyAI generates the Verify token for you.

On the channel form itself, at Assistant → Channels → New channel. There is no separate credentials area.

The access token should come from a Meta System User and include the required WhatsApp permissions, including whatsapp_business_messaging.

DrusyAI generates it automatically when you create the channel, so you do not invent one. Copy it into Meta's webhook configuration, where it must match exactly. If you regenerate it in DrusyAI, paste the new value into Meta again.

Webhook setup

After creating the Meta WhatsApp Cloud channel in DrusyAI, open the channel webhook step and copy the callback URL.

It should follow this format: https://{subdomain}.drusy.ai/webhook/meta/whatsapp

Common causes include a mismatched verify token, wrong workspace subdomain, incorrect callback URL, or using credentials from the wrong Meta app.

Make sure you subscribed to the messages webhook field in Meta. Without the messages subscription, inbound messages may not reach DrusyAI.

Channel status

Draft means the channel has been created but is not active yet. Complete webhook setup, run the test connection, and activate the channel.

Active means the channel is live and ready to receive WhatsApp messages.

Error means the channel test or configuration failed. Review credentials, Phone Number ID, webhook URL, verify token, and Meta subscription settings.

Some configuration may be locked while the channel is Active. Disable or deactivate the channel before making certain changes.

DrusyAI business verification

Your DrusyAI business verification is probably not approved yet. Check the status under Workspace → Business Profile. An active WhatsApp channel on its own does not let you enable the Assistant.

It is reviewed manually by the DrusyAI team, so allow time for it. Submit it early in setup, once your Meta verification is under way, so both reviews run at the same time.

Editing your business name, industry, contact email, registration number or country after submitting resets verification and restarts the review. Confirm these details are correct before requesting verification.

No. They are separate reviews by separate companies, and you need both. Meta verification gates production WhatsApp access; DrusyAI verification gates enabling your Assistant.

Provider conflicts

Only one active WhatsApp provider should be used at a time. If another WhatsApp provider is already active, disable it before activating a new one.

Meta WhatsApp Cloud uses credentials created directly in Meta. Twilio WhatsApp is for customers who already manage WhatsApp through Twilio.

Meta review and display name

No. Meta controls WhatsApp Business Platform access, number registration, business verification, and display name review.

The customer-facing WhatsApp display name is managed in Meta. DrusyAI's channel display name or label is only for internal organization.

Meta may reject display names that are misleading, generic, inconsistent with your business identity, or unsupported by your website or public profile.

Assistant, Knowledge, and Skills

Check that the Assistant is enabled in Workspace → Settings, Knowledge is ready, and required Skills are enabled.

Use Assistant → Knowledge to add and index business information.

Use Workspace → Settings to enable the Assistant, configure persona, and set handoff threshold.
